Sumudu Wijesuriya

Sumudu Wijesuriya is a research assistant at Global Social Development Innovations (GSDI) and a second-year Master of Social Work (MSW) candidate at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work. She graduated from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka with a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Sociology. Sumudu’s areas of interest in research are domestic violence prevention and empowerment of women and adolescents. Sumudu has been an educator in state and private universities in Sri Lanka for almost a decade. Her experience includes working as a project coordinator at the Center for the Study of Human Rights, University of Colombo where she developed curricula and trained law enforcement officials and child rights protection officers in the child protection and probation care sectors. Sumudu has previous experience in women’s empowerment, child safety, and probation care working with state authorities and nonprofit organizations.
